Editorial design
Urbanscape is a newspaper designed for an audience of urban explorers around the world. In this project, the typographic choices were of utmost importance – Owners was chosen, designed by the MCKL foundry to evoke the historic handwritten signs of Los Angeles, themselves based on Helvetica. This grungy and urban-centred theming continued throughout the project – right the way down to the pull quotes, built to recall New York subway signage.
The newspaper was described by tutors as ‘self-assured’, with particular praise towards the infographics, showing an exploded view of Bank station in the heart of London. Working with Blender, a basic wireframe was developed.

The newspaper blended together a range of information and editorial design, whilst the thick rules paired seamlessly with the typeface choice for the headings.
