Typesetting an academic book enabled me to deeply consider the layout and image treatment of content. The relationship between text and image was at the forefront of my mind as I ensured that images remained on the same pages to which they were referenced. Meanwhile, concerns over scale and comparability ensured that comparisons could easily be made, with scaling as close to 100% throughout.

The cover was described by tutors as ‘outstanding’ with a creative solution to the subject matter – a book overlaid on a wood-type poster, a direct callback to the item’s title and a technical success.

It was hoped that the scale would be such that two documents could be compared directly. Here, there are two examples of this principle in play.

For more complex artefacts, a detail was provided, as at the bottom left-hand corner.
